TAPAS, DISCIPLINE WITH DEVOTION
In yoga philosophy, Tapas means more than just willpower or hard work, it’s the inner fire that fuels meaningful transformation.
Tapas is one of the Niyamas, the guiding principles of personal growth in the Yoga Sutras. It invites us to show up with consistency, intention, and love, not because we have to, but because we know we’re worth it.
It’s that quiet voice that says:
Get on your mat even when it’s hard.
Breathe through the discomfort.
Keep showing up for yourself.
Tapas in your practice:
Rolling out your mat even on tired days
Staying for that extra breath in Warrior II
Trusting the process, not rushing the result
Tapas off the mat:
Committing to a morning ritual or mindful walk
Breaking old habits to make space for something better
Choosing growth over comfort, again and again
Tapas isn’t about burning out, it’s about burning bright. It’s the warmth that comes from choosing yourself, again and again, with devotion.
What’s one small way you can practice Tapas this week?
